To be or Not to be a Manager

Everyone knows someone who is very talented and will do everything they can to help them succeed. As momentum picks up for the new artist so does the excitement around them. Family and friends being to market and spread the word around their new artist. They tend to assume the role of “manager” however, not everyone has what it takes to become a manager.

People often think that an artist manager is easy because they only see the glamorous side of the business. It is more than just fun shows, photoshoots, and parties. Managing an artist is a lot of hard work. Your role is to make sure they have everything they need to have a great show and most importantly a great career.

The joke is, a manager is an “adult babysitter” which is true. You treat your artist as if they are a small child. You pretty much do everything but get on that stage and sing for them. You are their liaison, calendar keeper, money manager, and bank. Now, you don’t pay for everything they need however if there are any last-minute requests or hiccups you need to be financially equipped to handle situations.

Overall you are the handler. You take care of anything and everything that may arise. There is a lot of pressure and responsibilities that come with being a manager. Check out my blog post about managerial duties.
